Richards Medical’s Life-Saving School Visit Featured in Suffolk News
We’re delighted to see Richards Medical Community Trust featured in Suffolk News following our recent visit to Norton Church of England Primary School. Our volunteers attended the school to deliver our AED, CPR and Choking Awareness Programme, giving pupils the opportunity to learn practical skills that could one day help them save a life.
Learning skills that really matter
During the session, pupils learned:
- How to recognise when somebody needs help
- How to call the emergency services
- How to perform CPR
- What a defibrillator is and how it can help
- How to help somebody who is choking
- How to place a casualty in the recovery position.
The children were enthusiastic, engaged and keen to have a go. They were even given some unusual homework: to find out where their nearest public-access defibrillator is located.Knowing these skills from a young age helps build confidence and removes some of the fear around responding to a medical emergency. You never know when or where these skills might be needed.
Taking life-saving education into the community
Community education is an important part of what we do at Richards Medical Community Trust. Alongside providing medical cover at community events, we want to make practical first-aid knowledge accessible to schools, groups and communities.
We’re incredibly grateful to Norton Church of England Primary School for welcoming us and to Suffolk News for helping raise awareness of our work.
